Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz wants
to officially change his name. This probably won't cause too much
confusion in his life, since most Comedy Central viewers already
know him as Jon Stewart, host of The Daily Show.
According to a petition filed today
in Manhattan Supreme Court, Stewart has chosen to make the change
official because "he has used the name 'Jon Stewart' in his business
endeavors and personal life exclusively for many years . . . ."
Still, with his references to Simchas
Torah and chronic indigestion, Stewart hasn't exactly kept his
ethnic roots a secret. When 60 Minutes recently asked him
why he switched from Leibowitz, he explained: "Sounded too Hollywood."
